Shimadzu-UMMC Centre for Xenobiotic Studies or better known as SUCXeS, is a well equipped and sophisticated
teaching, research and service laboratory. It is a multidisciplinary laboratory which is capable of doing analysis on various types of drugs and xenobiotic compounds including poisons, adulterants, toxic compounds, pollutants and natural products. SUCXeS is equipped with the latest high technology and state of the art research equipments such as Liquid Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer, High Performance Liquid Chromatograph (HPLC), Gas Chromatograph-Mass Spectrometer (GCMS), LCMS-IT-TOF, LCMSMS and Atomic Absorption Spectrometer. These equipments are manned by highly experienced experts and qualified technical support.
SUCXeS is an example of a smart partnership between University Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), Shimadzu Corporation and Fisher Scientific (M) Sdn Bhd. All three organizations have different functions whereby Shimadzu provides the latest technology and instrumentation, UMMC provides work space and research expertise where all the research is being conducted while Fisher Scientific offers numerous servicing facilities.
The combined contributions from each organization results in a mutual benefit for all the three organizations. UMMC benefits from the use of high technology equipments to conduct research and teaching activities using the high tech instruments, and providing training, services and also expertise in the latest technology, while Shimadzu Corporation benefits through increased application of their equipment in the analysis of various drugs and other compounds, as well as in the evaluation of their equipments for this purpose. Fisher Scientific also benefit from this partnership by expanding their knowledge and expertise in the instrumentation involved.
BASICS AND PRINCIPLES OF GCMS (Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry) IN BIOMEDICAL ANALYSIS
The two day course will also give a brief overview of various method developments in biomedical and pharmaceutical analysis and quality control work. This will help personnel and laboratories staff to develop skills and have better understanding of GCMS and method developments.
